Having the lowest mortality rate for cardiac surgeries in NJ says a lot. Deborah’s survival rate is 10 times better than the NJ average, with just .18 deaths per 100 surgeries compared to an average of 1.8 deaths throughout the state.
Rated 4 out of 5 stars by National Hospital Compare and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for providing safe, timely, high quality care and a superior patient experience. Deborah has consistently achieved a rank in the top 10 to 20% of all hospitals nationwide and has achieved designation as a “Top Hospital” for a variety of quality measures.
Highlighting our achievements in patient safety and quality, Deborah was named a 2021 Top Teaching Hospital in the US by The Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive. Over 2,200 hospitals were considered for the award and only a total of 149 top hospitals nationwide were selected, including Deborah.
Deborah has received a 3-star rating — the highest available — from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. This designation represents one of the most respected professional benchmarks for quality cardiac surgery in the United States and Canada. Fewer than 7% of cardiac programs receive this distinction.
HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) is the first national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care. We are proud to rank highly with patients based on their own experiences.
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) has ranked Deborah as a top hospital in NJ in cardiac surgery outcomes. While competing hospitals have shown fluctuating scores from year to year, Deborah has consistently ranked among the very top reporting hospitals in the state.
Dr. Charles Bailey, a pioneer in heart surgery, performed the first two open-heart surgeries in the state of New Jersey in 1958 here at Deborah. These surgeries were life-saving events for an adult and a child, and our commitment to innovation has not wavered since.
For over 65 years, we’ve been training graduate fellows in Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Vascular Surgery. Our expertise is in every aspect of cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment and our fellows are exposed to all of it during their stay. They learn best practices in patient safety and quality and go on to be exceptional heart care physicians around the country.
Our imaging services have earned numerous 3-year accreditations from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. These accreditations reflect a commitment to quality care and accurate diagnoses.
In 2021, we treated patients from 43 states who traveled across the country based on research and referrals from family, friends and physicians.
