First Responder Health Assessment

Police officersFor more than 30 years Deborah has been diagnosing and treating first responders. These years of clinical experience specific to the risk factors faced by first responders have given Deborah specialists a unique perspective on evaluating and treating the cardiac conditions acquired by professionals who work in difficult, stressful, and dangerous situations every day.

With this knowledge, Deborah has designed an evidence-based cardiovascular and respiratory health assessment specifically tailored for fire fighters, emergency medical responders, and police and law enforcement personnel.

As a continuing commitment to our first responders, Deborah offers convenience, flexibility, and quick appointment scheduling through Deborah’s dedicated First Responder care coordinator/service center.

Know Your Risk Factors

The evidence is overwhelmingly clear that first responders have higher occupational hazards with well-documented health effects. The United States Fire Administration estimates that 47% of line-of-duty firefighter deaths are cardiac related, and the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) reports that police officers have the poorest cardiovascular disease profile of any occupation.

The taxing elements of the first responder profession — which is physically and emotionally demanding — also requires dangerous work, heavy uniforms, stress, smoke inhalation, dehydration, and gas and chemical exposure, among other occupational hazards. Added to this are other lifestyle and health issues like smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, eating “on the run,” and hypertension. These are a recipe for disaster for emergency personnel’s health.

Understanding your occupational risk factors is a first step towards better health.
