Online Databases

The following is a list of databases available to DHLC staff members. Unrestricted databases are included and available to the general public. Remote access from a non-DHLC site to licensed databases such as EBSCOhost and OVID is available for staff members only. Access requires user ID and password information which is provided upon library registration or by request to library staff.

A central resource for current information on research and clinical trial treatment for patients and health care providers. Information is also available in Spanish. Available to the public.

Alcohol and Alcohol Problems Science Database
Produced by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), ETOH contains over 110,000 records including references to journal articles, books, dissertation abstracts, conference papers and proceedings, reports and studies. Available to the public.

Identifies methods and procedures helpful in supporting the development, testing, application and validation of alternatives to the use of vertebrates in biomedical research and toxicology testing. Available to the public.

Provides library patrons with a single, comprehensive list of the electronic journal titles to which we have access including those journals in our collection. Users can quickly link to journals of interest. Searching can be done by keyword or browse an alphabetical list by title or subject. Not available to the public.

CDC Wonder
Search for and retrieve articles in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) and Prevention Guidelines published by the CDC. This database contains public use data such as cancer incidence, AIDS, mortality and many other subjects. Available to the public.

Chemical synonyms, structures, regulatory list information and links to other databases containing information about chemicals. Available to the public.

Provides patients, family members and members of the public current information about clinical research studies. Available to the public.

EBSCOhost Mobile
Now take EBSCO with you everywhere you go. Users of EBSCO’s leading research databases can conveniently search anytime and anywhere using EBSCO’s mobile access technology which is tailor-made for the smaller screens of mobile devices. An iPhone App is available by accessing the EBSCOhost iPhone/iPod touch application link at the bottom of the EBSCOhost screen and following the instructions. Not available to the public.

ERIC is a source of education information. The database contains more than one million abstracts of education-related documents and journal articles. Available to the public.
The US Government’s official web portal. Available to the public.

Made available by the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program. It is an occupational health database designed for health and safety professionals and for consumers seeking information about the health effects of exposure to chemicals at work. Available to the public.

The contents of this site were developed to meet the health care information needs of consumers, particularly the citizens of New Jersey. Available to the public.

Household Products Database
This database links over 4000 consumer brands and products to health effects from material Safety Data Sheets and allows both health care professionals and consumers to research the products based on chemical ingredients. Available to the public.

Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS)
IRIS is an online database made available through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It contains carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risk assessment and regulatory information on over 500 chemicals. The risk assessment data have been scientifically reviewed by groups of EPA scientists and represent EPA consensus. Available to the public.

MasterFile Premier

Please access at OVID. Medline covers the international literature on biomedicine, including the allied health fields and the biological and physical sciences, humaniies and information science as they relate to medicine and health care. Information is indexed from approx. 5,400 journals published worldwide.

Medline Plus
Medline Plus is the National Library of Medicine’s website for consumer health information. Medline Plus has extuensive information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 650 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and dictionary. Available in Spanish. Available to the public.

Newspaper Source

A website designed to meet the needs of older adults. Seniors and caregivers can find information on selected topics. Available to the public.

NJ Parent Link
The State of New Jersey’s Early Childhood, Parenting and Professional Resource Center. Available to the public.

NLM Gateway
NLM gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the US National Library of medicine. The current Gateway database searches Medline/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, DIRLINE, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, Space Life Sciences Meetings and HSRProj. Descriptions of these databases are available at the site. Available to the public.

Nursing and Allied Health Collection: Expanded

OVID provides online access to AACN Advanced Critical Care, American Journal of Nursing, Chest, Circulation, Coronary Artery Disease, Critical Care Medicine, Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing, European Heart Journal, Journal of Nursing Administration, Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, Nursing, Nursing Administration Quarterly and Nursing Management. Also provided at this site is access to the MEDLINE database from 1950 to the present. Please keep in mind that all of the above journals can also be accessed at the AtoZ link. Not available to the public.

PubMed provides access to over 12 million references from 4600 biomedical journals. Many of these references link to abstracts and in some cases, the full text article. Available to the public.

Regional Business News
See EBSCOhost. Not available to the public. is a gateway to the government’s vast stores of scientific and technical information. It is an interagency initiative of 17 US Government scientific organizations within Federal agencies. This gateway allows searches across 30 databases and 1700 science websites. Available to the public.

TOXLINE is a database covering the biochemical, pharmacological, physiological and toxicological effects of drugs and other chemicals. It contains over 3 million citations, almost all with abstracts and/or index terms and CAS registry numbers. Available to the public.

TOXNET (Toxicology Data Network)
Databases covering toxicology, hazardous chemicals and similar areas. Available to the public.
