Health Records on iPhone Now Available to Deborah Patients

Deborah Heart and Lung Center now supports Health Records on iPhone, which brings together a patient’s health records across hospitals and clinics in the existing Apple Health app to make it easier for patients to view their available medical data from multiple providers whenever they want to.

In addition to the Health Records feature, the Apple Health app shows activity, heart rate, nutrition, allergies and other health data that is consolidated from an iPhone, Apple Watch, and HealthKit-enabled third-party apps.

This feature will make it easier for Deborah patients to quickly find test results and keep track of procedures. This is especially helpful when a patient has multiple physicians at different hospitals and healthcare providers. It is an easy way to view the data from multiple patient portals in one centralized location. Health Records on iPhone also notifies patients when their data is updated.

“Besides the convenience for our patients,” said Rich Temple, Vice President CIO, at Deborah Heart and Lung Center “what really appeals to me about Health Records on iPhone is the multi-layers of security and privacy provided by a direct, encrypted connection between the patient’s iPhone and the healthcare organization. Privacy and security are of utmost importance to Deborah, and the Apple Health app checks all the boxes.”

Downloaded health records data is stored on device and encrypted with the user’s iPhone passcode, Touch ID or Face ID.

“Apple worked with the healthcare community to take a consumer-friendly approach when creating Health Records based on FHIR, a standard for transferring electronic medical records.”

iPhone users can access Health Records from within the health app. They then can download their health records by selecting Deborah Heart and Lung Center (and any other healthcare providers they have that support Health Records on iPhone), and authenticating with their patient portal username and password.

“We are excited to bring the next step in integrated, personal electronic medical records to our patients,” added Temple. “This is one more step in offering convenience in healthcare self-management.”
