Know Your Numbers for Heart Health

Common risk factors for developing heart disease are: family history, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking and aging. On this episode of the Hurley in the Morning radio show, learn how to monitor and offset these risk factors with Interventional Cardiologist Courtney Krathen, DO.

To help reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke, Dr. Krathen recommends “knowing your numbers.” The most important numbers to monitor are blood pressure, LDL cholesterol and hemoglobin A1C’s. For people over the age of 35, Dr. Krathen recommends checking these numbers twice per year. By routinely checking your numbers, you can implement lifestyle changes such as weekly aerobic activity, decreased salt intake and choosing lower cholesterol options when cooking meals.
