Millions of Americans have heart failure. It’s often the end disease of many cardiovascular illnesses. Heart failure affects the heart’s ability to pump effectively and provide oxygenated blood to the body. It can develop gradually over time or it can occur suddenly, from an event such as a heart attack. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, swollen feet and ankles, and weight gain.

He shares breakthroughs, promising new therapies and devices for management of the disease. New medications, precision medicine to custom tailor treatment to individual patients, and devices, such as the left ventricular assist device, (LVAD), the Wise pacing system and ECMO, can help manage the symptoms and progression of heart failure. New research exploring gene therapy and clinical trials studying new treatments are also discussed.
