Everyone needs quality sleep, with seven to nine hours of sleep recommended per night. However, getting good sleep can often be a problem. Issues like sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and insomnia can be debilitating and lead to health problems. KYW’s Rasa Kaye speaks with Deborah Heart and Lung Center pulmonologist Carol Ash, DO about sleep medicine and the relationship between sleep and your health.
Dr. Ash discusses how hormones affect and regulate sleep, common sleep disorders, sleep studies, and sleep medications and supplements. Circadian rhythms, the effects of screen time, lifestyle and weight management can all affect sleep. Lack of quality sleep can affect the immune system, mental health and harm the body. Tips for getting and staying asleep are provided, as well as diet and exercise tips for quality sleep.
By participating in this quiz, or screening or health assessment, I recognize and accept all risks associated with it. I understand that the program will only screen for certain risk factors and does not constitute a complete physical exam. For the diagnosis of a medical problem, I must see a physician for a complete medical exam. I release Deborah Heart and Lung Center and any other organization(s) involved in this screening, and their employees and agents, from all liabilities, medical claims or expenses which may arise from my participation. Thank you for investing in your health by participating today.
