AFib and Stroke Risk

male physician in lab coat
Interventional Cardiologist Daniel Ice, MD

The most common arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat is atrial fibrillation, also known as AFib. People with AFib are at increased risk for stroke, as blood clots can form in the left atrial appendage of the heart. The clots may dislodge and travel through the body to the brain and cause a stroke.

Treatments include blood thinners and a left atrial appendage occlusion device (LAAO). An LAAO closure device seals off the left atrial appendage and prevents blood clots from traveling through the body and causing strokes. On this episode of the Hurley in the Morning radio show, learn about AFib and stroke risk, LAAOs and more with Interventional Cardiologist Daniel Ice, MD.
