A variety of specialized cardiac imaging at Deborah ensures the most accurate diagnosis of a patient’s condition.
Calcium Score Screening
A Calcium Score Screening uses a computed tomography (CT) scan to check for the buildup of calcium in the walls of the arteries in the heart. Since these arteries do not normally have calcium, the presence of it can be an indicator of heart disease.
Cardiac Computed Tomography Scan
A Cardiac Computed Tomography (CT) scan uses special X-rays to create detailed images of the heart and blood vessels.
Dobutamine Stress Echo
A Stress Echocardiogram is used to assess the heart’s function and structures while walking/exercising on a treadmill. An echo done with a medication called dobutamine can test how well the heart performs under stress.
EchoPixel True 3D
Deborah’s Interventional and Electrophysiology Teams are among the first in the country to use the new EchoPixel True 3D technology. This new 3D imaging system takes Deborah’s current high-tech CT and Echo 3D capabilities to the next level. With the use of a special virtual reality HP display and sophisticated True 3D interactive Virtual Reality software, the system allows physicians to actually manipulate the 3D images, and virtually place devices, such as the WATCHMAN, as well as stents and valves, prior to going “live” in surgery. This virtual placement enables complex planning of size and dimensions for these devices. Additionally, the EchoPixel True 3D is an extremely valuable educational tool for our Fellows, providing a hands-on learning opportunity for device placement in a virtual environment for patients with complex anatomy.
Nuclear Exercise Stress Test
A Nuclear Exercise Stress Test is similar to an exercise stress test, in that it also involves walking on a treadmill. For this test, however, a radioactive isotope is injected into the bloodstream. A gamma camera can detect radiation and create computer images of the heart at rest and after exercise.
Multigated Acquisition Scan (MUGA)
A Multigated Acquisition Scan is a diagnostic test used to evaluate the pumping function of the heart. With a small injection of a radioactive isotope, a gamma camera can detect the radiation and capture computer-generated images of the beating heart.
Pharmacological Nuclear Stress Test (Dobutamine, Regadenosen)
A Pharmacological Nuclear Stress Test uses dobutamine or regadenosen to stimulate the heart or dilate its blood vessels respectively. With a small amount of radioactive isotope, a gamma camera can detect the radiation and create computer images of the heart at rest and after simulated exercise.
