Boy Scout Fundraiser Selects Deborah Heart and Lung Center

Forty Potted Mums Donated to the Hospital

Brothers Nicolas and Andres Chavez, who are also scout members in Boy Scout Troop #112, recently came to the hospital where they donated forty potted mums for replanting on the campus. The mums were purchased and donated as a troop fundraiser and community service project.

The brothers, who are respectively a freshman and senior at Northern Burlington Regional High School, have used the monies raised from previous fundraisers for scout hiking and camping trips. Nicolas said he enjoys scouting for the life experiences and leadership skills he’s developing. “And when we do a community project, I love to see everyone’s smiling faces.”

Andres, who has also already made Eagle Scout, said they selected Deborah as their project recipient because their mother (the family is stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst) needed the hospital for an unexpected cardiac evaluation.

“My mom got great care here and we were thankful it was so close. We thought, ’let’s do something for the hospital’.”

The mums were planted throughout the campus, where they can be enjoyed by patients and visitors.
